Cate Blanchett's unborn baby "slept through" last night's Academy Awards.

The double Oscar-nominee - who showed off her pregnancy in a flowing Dries Van Noten dress - says her future son stayed calm despite the excitement and stress of the Los Angeles ceremony.

Cate, who is expecting her third child with playwright husband Andrew Upton, said: "He's actually asleep at the moment - believe it or not! But that bodes well for me!"

Cate lost out on both the Best Actress award to 'La Vie En Rose' star Marion Cotillard, and the Best Supporting Actress award to Tilda Swinton who won for 'Michael Clayton'.

However, she did win a Best Supporting Actress award at Saturday's Film Independent's Spirit Awards for her role in Bob Dylan biopic 'I'm Not There'.

In a touching acceptance speech, Cate dedicated her award to her co-star in the movie Heath Ledger, who died from an accidental prescription drugs overdose on January 22.

She said: "Heath was one of the most beautiful, independent spirits of all, and I would like to dedicate my award to him."
