No charges were initially filed, however the California Highway Patrol is recommending that pop singer Brandy be charged with manslaughter over an accident that killed one person in December.
The CHP has finished an investigation into the December 30 crash and has since advised the Los Angeles City Attorney's office to press charges against Brandy, whose full name is Brandy Norwood.
If charges go ahead, the former "Moesha" star could face a one year jail sentence and a $1,000 fine. The mother of one would be charged with a misdemeanor count of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence, a CHP spokesperson confirmed.
CHP representative Leland Tang told PEOPLE, "We know that Brandy's at fault for the chain reaction of the collision."
The crash, which saw Brandy's Land Rover rear end a Toyota, killed driver Awatef Aboudihaj.
