Britney Spears' family feels betrayed by Dr. Phil McGraw for milking the troubled singer's collapse.
Lou Taylor, business manager and spokesperson for the 26-year-old's mother, Lynne, and sister, Jamie Lynn, has appeared on the Today show and said the famous psychologist betrayed their trust by talking to the media after showing up at Spears' hospital room on Saturday.
"The family basically extended an invitation of trust for him to come in as a resource to support them, not to go out and make public statements. Any statement publicly that he made, because he was brought in under this cloak of trust, (is) just inappropriate."
The spokesperson admitted that the family invited McGraw to the hospital but they did not invite him "to make this part of a public display of the media.
"What's wrong with Dr. Phil's statement is that he made a statement."
McGraw has released a statement after his meeting with Spears at the hospital saying. "My meeting with Britney and some of her family members this morning in her room at Cedars leaving me convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of medical and psychological intervention."
Mental health experts criticizes the TV doctor this week for going too far and showing up at the pop star's hospital room at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in L.A. as she was about to be discharged.
McGraw has slammed the critics in his Entertainment Tonight interview on Monday. "Somebody needs to step up and get this young woman into some quality care - and I do not apologize one white, not one second, for trying to make that happen."
The pop singer was hospitalized on Thursday night after a dispute with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, regarding child custody. Federline was giving sole physical and legal custody of the couple's children Friday.
