Britney Spears has come under fire this week after photographs captured her driving with her infant son, Sean, in her lap.
Spears says she had been trying to escape an aggressive swarm of photographers and didn't feel as though she had time to strap Sean into his car seat.
In an interview with Access Hollywood, Spears says, "I made a mistake, and so it is what it is, I guess."
As a result of the incident, a sheriff with the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services was sent to her Malibu home to get contact information from the singer. Spears' actions were in violation of California law, however, officials have said they will not pursue charges against her.
Spears also released a statement on the matter saying, "I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm's way."
X17, the agency that got the photographs, denied Spears' account and said their photographs show a "peaceful context" when they snapped the photos.
