Simon Pegg has branded Ricky Gervais "fat" and an "idiot." The "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People" actor launched the vicious attack on his fellow British star after being asked if he, like Gervais, was struggling to cope with the pressures of living in Los Angeles.
Pegg said: "He says a lot of things, that man. He said there had been no good British films since 1950. What an idiot."
"If you go to Los Angeles, you can get sucked into that. I've seen people go there and suddenly become rake thin because there is a slight pressure on you to be thin. I've also seen a lot of fat people there."
When asked if he was referring to Gervais, Pegg replied to Heart FM DJs Jamie Theakston and Harriet Scott: "He's one of the fat people in Los Angeles, yes."
Sources have revealed Pegg's unprovoked outburst shocked staff at the radio station where he was being interviewed.
One insider said: "It was one of the most bizarre moments of the show. It was completely unexpected by him, as he usually never says a bad word about anyone."
"Everyone laughed because they didn't know how to take his comments. He was being serious."
