Actor Brad Garrett has agreed to step in for Nathan Lane on Broadway. Lane, who has been stricken with laryngitis, is unable to perform in "The Odd Couple" as messy Oscar Madison.

Garrett previously played Murray the cop when the Neil Simon comedy opened late last year, and was also Lane's understudy. Garrett will play Oscar Madison on Friday, two performances on Saturday, and the Sunday matinee.

The actor, best known for his role on television's "Everybody Loves Raymond," left the production Jan. 1 to return to his family in California. Garrett will star opposite Matthew Broderick, who portrays Felix Ungar in the show. Lane is expected to return next Tuesday.
