The wife of actor Bill Murray, best known for roles in movies such as "Caddyshack" and "Groundhog Day," has filed for divorce. After nearly 11 years of marriage, Jennifer Butler Murray has filed for divorce alleging that the actor has abused her and is addicted to marijuana and alcohol.
Jennifer filed for divorce on May 12 in Charleston County. She owns a home on Sullivans Island, in South Carolina, where she lives with the couple's four children. Murray, who was also a cast member on "Saturday Night Live," is said to be deeply saddened by the breakup of his marriage.
The couple reportedly signed a prenuptial agreement before they married in 1997, which waived their right to alimony or support if the marriage broke up. Murray, however, has agreed to pay his ex-wife $7 million within 60 days of a final divorce decree.
Murray, 57, earned an Oscar nomination for his role in the movie "Lost in Translation." He is co-owner of the minor league baseball team the Charleston RiverDogs.
