David Beckham has rushed home to England to be with his seriously ill father.

The Los Angeles Galaxy soccer star - who is currently living in Beverly Hills - was devastated when he was told dad Ted had suffered a heart attack and caught the first plane back to London.

He is expected to land at lunchtime today.

David's spokesman said, "His father has had a heart attack and is currently being treated in hospital. David is flying back to be with him."

The 32-year-old star's wife, Spice Girl Victoria, was unable to join him as she is busy working in Japan.

Ted, 59, was taken to hospital yesterday after complaining of chest pains at home. Sources claim he died en route to Whipps Cross Hospital in Essex but was resuscitated by paramedics.

After receiving treatment, Ted was moved to a specialist heart clinic, the London Chest Hospital, where his youngest daughter Joanne is staying with him.

A hospital source told Britain's The Sun newspaper, "Ted was in a bad way and actually died on his way to hospital. The paramedics managed to bring him back. He was further stabilized in hospital before being transferred."

Ted - who is divorced from David's mother Sandra - and David have had a strained relationship in recent times following Ted's controversial decision to write a book on his son's life.

David - who has three sons, Brooklyn, eight, Romeo, five, and two-year-old Cruz, with Victoria - was said to be furious following the publication of "David Beckham: My Son" in 2005.

The pair recently patched up their differences after they had an emotional reunion in April.

Ted and Sandra also have another daughter, Lynne.
