Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz turned down a free 'KY Intimacy kit' for fear of infuriating Ashlee's father. Ashlee and Pete attended Chicago's Lollapalooza music festival, which he was hosting, and were offered promotional gifts by the event sponsors.
The couple were said to be fearful of being photographed with the sex aid because Ashlee's manager father Joe, a former Baptist minister, would disapprove.
A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Pete was a host and Ashlee was his guest, but although they hit up a lot of the gifting suites, nobody got photos."
"They were given KY Intimacy kits, but they wouldn't take photos with them."
"They were both overheard saying how Ashlee's dad would murder them if they started showing off that stuff."
Strict Joe likes his daughters Ashlee and Jessica to maintain a wholesome image. He recently forced Jessica, 27, to turn down a potentially Oscar-winning role as a porn star - insisting she keep her clothes on.
The 49-year-old revealed: "The last script that came to us was for Jessica to be a porn star."
"We were promised we would win an Oscar with that."
"I told them, 'Eh, we'll just buy a statue of a little man and keep our clothes on.'"
