While there is controversy surrounding the life and death of Anna Nicole Smith, one element has finally been cleared up.
A medical examiner's report has concluded that the former model died of an accidental overdose, lying to rest rumors of a suicide.
Broward County Medical Examiner Dr. Joshua Perper revealed in his report that Smith had nine different prescription drugs in her body at the time of her death. He also said that she could have been saved if she had been admitted to the hospital before she died.
Smith, who was in Florida, was suffering from a stomach flu, a 105-degree fever and an infection from injections. However, she refused her bodyguards' requests to go to the hospital, reportedly fearing media chaos.
Dr. Perper told the Associated Press, "If she would have gone to the hospital she wouldn't have died because she wouldn't have had the opportunity to take the excessive amount of chloral hydrate."
Including chloral hydrate, Smith had sedatives such as Trichloroethanol, Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, Temazepam, Oxazepam and Lorazapam. She also had taken Trichloroacetic acid, a treatment for warts.
The buxom blonde's idol, Marilyn Monroe, also had chloral hydrate in her system when she overdosed in 1962.
In his report, Dr. Perper said that the chronic prescription drug user had a weaker system due to her flu. He said, "She may have taken the dosages she was accustomed to but succumbed because she was already weakened. Miss Smith has a long history of prescription drug abuse and self-medicated in the past."
Another pressing issue involving Smith includes the paternity of her daughter, Dannielynn.
A Bahamas judge has ordered the DNA testing, to determine whether Howard K. Stern or Larry Birkhead is the father. A DNA sample of the infant has reportedly been taken, but the results will not be revealed until a court date on April 3.
However, some Bahamian analysts believe that the baby will not be placed in the care of her biological father, but rather be raised by someone with the "best interest of the child."
