Angelina Jolie is at her mother, Marcheline Bertrand's, side while she is hospitalized after undergoing an operation for cancer at a Los Angeles hospital.

"Angelina is worried sick about her mom," says a close friend. "Everything else in Angie's life is perfect. But her mom's cancer hangs like a dark cloud over everything."

The friend of the family also revealed that Marcheline has been battling cancer for years, but the 55 year old former actress took a turn for the worse which was why the surgery was imminent.

An insider at the hospital said the latest procedure is the second time in two years. Marcheline was married to Angelina's estranged dad actor Jon Voight from 1971 to 1978.
