Amy Winehouse has a skin infection. The 'Rehab' singer has been diagnosed with impetigo, her rep confirms.
"Amy has been diagnosed with impetigo, which she has been told can be highly contagious. Because of that she's been put on antibiotics and may have to stay home alone for the next few days," the rep says.
The 24-year-old singer had been spotted masking her swollen, bruised left cheek with makeup as she entered her new home in East London last week. She promptly sought medical attention after that.
Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection that is most common among children although adults are also susceptible to the infection. It is highly infectious and may affect other parts of the person's body as well.
But despite her condition, a friend of Winehouse insists that the singer is "fine" and "not hiding away. She's never been one to care what other people think."
