"American Idol" contestant David Hernandez, the first singer to be cut from the top 12 on the musical reality show, believes that the media can be vicious. Despite that, he doesn't believe that the media's relentless spin on the fact that he used to dance nude at a gay bar is what got him booted off the show. He thinks it was his song choice.
Hernandez said the judges gave him a very poor review for his rendition of "I Saw Her Standing There" during the first week that the top 12 sang. He said he believed America knew it was a weak performance.
Hernandez said the negative media that surrounded him during Idol made him stronger and that his fellow contestants encouraged him to not go online and read what was being written about his former occupation.
The singer still believes he will have a music career, adding that if he is going to be in the industry he knows he needs to develop a thick skin.
Hernandez will begin making the media rounds, appearing on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show" and "Today."
