Two-time Olympic gold medalist Amanda Beard poses nude for the latest PETA(People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) ad.
Beard's ad, "Be comfortable in your own skin, don't wear fur," was released just a few days before the Olympics at the Athletes Village in Beijing, where she was preparing for the 2008 Olympics.
She claims that she would rather go nude than slaughter an animal to wear as fashion. She joins the cause with fellow celebs such as Alicia Silverstone and Pamela Anderson, who have also vowed to never wear fur. Beard expresses no regrets about baring it all in the name of a worthy cause.
Some controversy has arisen about whether or not Beard's motives are genuine. Skeptics, aware that she will appear in Playboy magazine, claim that the ad was just another way of getting some publicity. Playboy is said to also be featuring a behind the scenes video of the photo shoot. Reactions to the claim have been mixed.
Nonetheless, no one doubts the boldness of her statement as China is on PETA's list of countries that aren't doing much for animal rights. PETA has recently carried out an investigation into China's thriving fur industry. Chinese officials did not support Beard's unveiling of the ad in their country, which is why she did it at the Athlete's Village.
