Scientology has some very famous supporters in Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Lisa Marie Presley and now Kirstie Alley has come out to defend her chosen religion.
The "Jenny Craig" spokesperson says that she has had enough of the media slamming the controversial religion, which is known for asking its members to pay a price for certain rewards within the church.
The former "Cheers" star says, "Why is it OK that Scientology gets slammed? A bigot is a bigot is a bigot."
The newly svelte star likens Scientology, started by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard in the 1950s, to ancient religions such as Christianity and Judaism, saying "You would never come out and say Catholics are weird or Jews are weird - that's nothing short of bigotry. And it should be defended by every other religion in this world, because they're next."
Oprah's latest bikini model explains what the belief system has done for her, revealing, "For me, Scientology is, 'Let me make some oars and get in the boat and paddle myself across'. That's how you get to the other side."
However Alley is sounding very Catholic-like in her new pledge. The single star says that she will make potential life-long partners wait six months to see her new slim figure.
She told Home Journal magazine, "When I find someone who I'm really, really interested in, I am not having sex with that person for at least six months. I take sex seriously, and if you think you might want to spend the rest of your life with someone, six months is a drop in the bucket."
The divorced actress has two children.
