Adam Sandler is set to receive the highest award at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. He will be handed the MTV Generation Award in the form of a popcorn-shaped trophy Sunday.

The MTV Generation Award is honored to a star who has managed to capture the MTV generation's short-lived attention over the course of his or her career.

The 41-year-old "Big Daddy" star certainly did capture their attention with his films that had become household names such as "Billy Madison," "Happy Gilmore," and "Little Nicky."

MTV Networks President Van Toffler has been quoted by eonline.com as saying, "A thirty-something water boy, a brokenhearted '80s wedding singer and a rejected hockey player turned pro golfer... now that's an impressive resume."

Previous recipients of the much coveted award include Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey. Myers is set to host the live awards show on Sunday.
