Rapper 50 Cent is planning to strip back his tough guy image and win over fans in a new genre.
The gangster rapper, who had a breakthrough hit with "In Da Club", says his next album will be an ode to old Motown classics.
50 Cent hit the big time musically along side performers such as Eminem, Ja Rule and P. Diddy, but says he is now looking to new influences to improve himself musically.
He says, "I want the music to sound like something I haven't done before so I needed to change the guys I worked with on the last project."
The musician says after his previous success he is now more willing to take risks, "On my last album I stuck with what people have expected from me already but now I feel more comfortable to do something else."
"I've been listening to a lot of Motown stuff - Smokey Robinson - a lot of older music, so I got a lot of soulful loops."
The hip-hop star, who has made a name for himself based on his violet and sexual image, reveals his upcoming album will be a mixture of new and old sounds.
He says, "I took material from some old, old records and recreated them."
The album is due to be released next spring.
