'Grey's Anatomy' and '24' lead this year's Emmy Award nominations.

The medical drama and the real-time action series have received 11 and 12 nominations respectively.

The two shows will go head-to-head in the hotly contested Outstanding Drama category.

They go up against long running HBO gangster show 'The Sopranos' and the recently cancelled political drama 'The West Wing'. Both shows have previously scooped the accolade.

'Curb Your Enthusiasm', 'Two and a Half Men', 'Scrubs', 'The Office' and 'Arrested Development' are all in the running to be named Outstanding Comedy Series.

The winners will be announced at a lavish Los Angeles awards ceremony on August 27.
